Funeral Service and Hospice: Partners in Caring and Understanding. Though the professions are closely related, communication between hospice professionals and funeral directors sometimes lacks. Pairing his extensive experience overseeing hospice bereavement and pastoral care programs to his deep familiarity with the funeral service profession, Dr. Hoy helps colleagues in both hospice care and funeral service build bridges of understanding with each other, understanding how each profession thinks and what it values, as well as helping each group understand the unique pressures experienced by the other. After attending a workshop for funeral directors to better understand hospice, one funeral professional wrote, "I never realized the struggles they face.
